Efficiently upgrading car park and streetscape lighting in Melbourne

Alert Electrical has played a key role in illuminating people’s lives in Melbourne after carrying out an extensive public lighting upgrade for Moonee Valley City Council in areas including car parks and streets.

The recent upgrade, which took place over a five-month period, centred on replacing the council’s existing lighting with more energy-efficient options. Energy-efficient lighting delivers a range of benefits to municipal councils including a carbon-emission reduction, a cut in electricity costs and less maintenance.

The upgrade improved car park lighting for Melbourne people as well as street lighting at various shopping strips, parks and river walkways across the municipality. The council, which has invested heavily in the change-over project, also received a government grant to help move to more energy-efficient public lighting.

At Alert Electrical we know that effective public lighting plays a key role in helping keep pedestrians and motorists safe. It can also help deter crime and lift the amenity of communities.

And it just makes people more confident about being out after dark. Let’s face it, when it comes to car park lighting Melbourne people want it to be working efficiently as they walk to their cars on a dark winter’s night. The same goes for other public locations too.

So our team was happy to be part of the changeover project, replacing existing bell-shaped decorative lights of wattage 80w and under with Sylvania Bourke Hill Eco LED 18w lighting. We used Sylvania City Plus 30w lighting to upgrade decorative post-top lights. The new lights fit seamlessly into the `look’ of the council’s lighting scheme.

Alert Electrical’s electricians carried out the upgrade work at:

  • A.J. Davis Reserve at Airport West
  • Essendon’s Buckley Street shops
  • Puckle Street precinct in Moonee Ponds
  • Mt Alexander Road shopping strip in Essendon
  • Moonee Ponds bus/tram junction
  • Maribyrnong River running-walking track from Ascot Vale to Essendon
  • Ascot Vale’s Victory Park, across from the Melbourne Showgrounds
  • Steele Creek bike-walking track in Niddrie
  • Niddrie’s Rosehill Park
  • Moonee Ponds Civic Centre
  • Queens Park in Moonee Ponds
  • And Strathmore’s Napier/Lloyd Street shopping precinct

Alert Electrical takes pride in performing quality work that makes a real difference to people’s lives. And upgrading public lighting fits the bill – improving safety and providing a more energy-efficient selection with real cost savings for municipalities at the same time.
